Royals' Trio to Participate at 2019 World Junior Championships

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that forward Phillip Schultz and Assistant Coach J.F. Best will join Team Denmark, while Athletic Therapist Khore Elliott will join Team Canada's medical staff, at the upcoming 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.

The annual tournament will be held in Victoria and Vancouver from December 26, 2018 to January 5, 2019. Both Canada and Denmark will participate in Group A based out of Vancouver.

Phillip Schultz:

This is the second consecutive year that Schultz will join Team Denmark at the World Junior Championships. In last year's tournament, as a 17-year-old, he scored a goal in six games. Schultz also gained international experience at the 2018 Under-18 World Championships in the Division 1A Group, where he was Captain for Team Denmark and earned six points (4g-2a) in five contests.

The native of Rodovre, Denmark is in his first season with the Royals, where he has recorded 13 points (6g-7a) in 28 games with the club. Schultz was selected by Victoria, 38th overall, in the 2018 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft in June.

The 6-0, 194 lb forward spent the majority of the 2017-18 season with the Rodovre Mighty Bulls of the Metal Ligaen, Denmark's top professional league, where he registered 12 points (5g-7a) to go with 53 penalty minutes in 40 games. Schultz also played 10 contests for Rodovre SIK of the Danish Division 1 league, the second tier of professional hockey in Denmark and earned 17 points (9g-8a) and eight minutes in penalties.

J.F. Best:

For the third consecutive year, Best will be joining Team Denmark as a consultant in Performance Analysis at the tournament. Best has worked in this role for the Danish Ice Hockey Federation since 2015. Recently, he joined Team Denmark as Performance Analyst at both the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, and at the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.

The native of Ottawa, ON is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Royals. He has also worked with the Kanata Lasers of the Central Canada Hockey League (2016-17), the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67's (2015-16), the Nepean Raiders Under-18 of Hockey Eastern Ontario (2015-16) and the WHL's Tri-City Americans (2013-14).

Khore Elliott:

The Victoria, BC product will be making his fifth appearance with Hockey Canada, as a member of their medical staff, in the past six years and first with the National Junior team. Elliott was a member of Team Canada's gold medal winning clubs at both the 2017 and 2015 Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cups.

The Royals' Athletic Therapist was also a member of Team Canada Black at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. During the 2013-14 season, Elliott won a silver medal with Team Pacific at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Elliott is in his seventh season with the Royals. He previously worked with the Canadian Under-20 Rugby team (2011), the BCHL's Cowichan Valley Capitals (2010), the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL (2009), and the Westshore Rebels (2008-10). Elliott has also worked at the 2010 BMO Skate Canada National Championships and 2010 Western Canada Summer Games.
