Royals Split with Checkers, Hit Road this Week

The Reading Royals take to the road this week for two games, Tuesday in Charlotte and Saturday in Richmond. The Royals hosted a pair of games against the Charlotte Checkers this week. Reading tied a season high for the fourth time posting seven goals in a 7-4 victory on Friday night. The teams squared off Saturday with the Checkers picking up a tight 3-2 decision in the Sovereign Center.

Friday, February 4 @ Charlotte Cricket Arena 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: This game marks the third straight meeting with the Checkers and fifth this season. The Checkers and Royals will meet one more time in Charlotte on March 16 to close out the regular season series. The Royals first visit to Charlotte was successful. Reading won 6-3 led by goaltender Jeff Sanger who made a season high 48-saves.

Saturday, February 1 @ Richmond Richmond Coliseum 7:35PM

GAME NOTES: The Royals and Renegades battle for the sixth time this season. The final three games of this regular season series will be played in February. The Royals, winners of the last three contests, have a 3-1-1 mark against Richmond this season and 6-3-2 all-time record.

Friday, January 31 vs. Charlotte Sovereign Center 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: The Reading Royals took a step closer to winning the regular season series with a 7-4 win. Reading blew the game open in the second period with four unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead after 40-minutes. Colin Pepperall picked up two goals, including his team leading sixth game-winning goal. Pepperall also notched his 200th career point, while Brandon Dietrich registered his 50th career tally and Geoff Peters picked up point 100.

Saturday, February 1 vs. Charlotte Sovereign Center 7:05PM

GAME NOTES: Charlotte grabbed revenge on the Royals in their final meeting in Reading of the regular season. The Checkers 3-2 win evened the season series at two games apiece. Kevin Caulfield picked up the game-winning goal. Mat Snesrud and Brad Rooney scored for Reading.

Geoff Peters turned in his first back-to-back multiple point games this season. Peters picked up a goal and an assist Friday night in the Royals victory over the Checkers. Saturday, he assisted on both Royals goals in a 3-2 loss.

Jeff Sanger picked up his 13-career win this week with a 7-4 decision over the Charlotte Checkers. Sanger stopped 33 shots in the win. Saturday, he stopped 32 Checkers shots in a close 3-2 loss. Overall, the Madison Wisconsin native is 13-8-1 in his rookie season.
