Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Jeff Corey. Last season, Corey (6'0/195), who will turn twenty-six on October 10, played for the Frederikshavn White Hawks in Denmark, where he tied for the team lead with eighteen goals, while assisting on nine others (twenty-seven points) and picking up sixty-three penalty minutes, in thirty-six games.

Corey, who hails from Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, climbed through the ranks of southeastern Pennsylvania youth hockey, which included stints with the Junior Flyers and Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield. After a three year stint with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League, Corey joined the University of Vermont Catamounts, where he put together a stellar four season career, scoring a total of forty-eight goals and assisting on fifty-one others (ninety-nine points) in 135 college games. After his senior year in which he led the Catamounts with sixteen goals in thirty-eight games, Corey was a late season signing for the Toronto Marlies, where he promptly scored in his first game as a pro on March 18, 2006, against the Grand Rapids Griffins. The following season, 2006-07, Corey played fifty-six games for the Marlies and scored nine goals, while assisting on eleven others (twenty points).

The Royals open the 2008-09 regular season against the Elmira Jackals on Friday, October 17, 2008 at First Arena in Elmira, New York.
