
Forward Roy becomes latest addition to Blades

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today the team has signed forward Mathieu Roy to a contract for the 2008-09 season.
Roy (pronounced: WAH) joins the Everblades after spending his rookie campaign with the Pensacola Ice Pilots in 2007-08. The 21-year-old played in all 72 games for the Ice Pilots last season, notching 45 points (16g, 29a) and 50 penalty minutes. Roy opened his rookie season with points in five of the first seven games, including scoring his first pro goal in his first pro game. Overall the Amos, Quebec native finished second on the Ice Pilots in goals, assists, and points, plus led the team with eight power play goals.
"Mathieu is a good, strong, young player that we're excited about adding to our roster." Cameron said. "He's a tenacious fore-checker with good hands and the kind of player that goes hard to the net. He put together a good year with Pensacola last season after a tremendous junior career, and we're looking forward to him building on last season's numbers as a member of the Everblades this year."
Prior to turning pro Roy, who will be attending training camp with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League, spent four seasons at the junior level with Acadie-Bathurst and Val d'Or of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 6-foot, 196 pound winger's best junior season came in 2005-06 when he posted 104 points (50g, 54a) in 65 regular season games with Acadie-Bathurst, and registered 19 points in 17 post-season games. His point total led Acadie-Bathurst that year and ranked 10th in the league.
In 2006-07 Roy helped lead Val d'Or to the QMJHL championship game by tallying 24 points in 20 playoff games after scoring 87 notching 87 points in 63 regular season games. Overall in 268 career QMJHL games from 2003-2007 Roy scored 144 goals and chipped in 145 assists for 289 points.
