Lynx Sign Steward, Watson

AUGUSTA, Ga.− The Augusta Lynx have signed winger Dallas Steward and forward Chase Watson, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations John Marks announced today.

Steward, 28, had four points (two goals, two assists) and six penalty minutes in 15 games with the Charlotte Checkers last season after recovering from injury. The five-foot-six, 180-pound native of Chippewa Falls, Wis., has 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) and 134 penalty minutes in 125 career-regular season ECHL games from 2005-06 through 2007-08 with Pensacola and Charlotte.

"Dallas brings leadership and speed to our club," Marks said. "He's a very competitive, very team-oriented guy who's willing to do what it takes to win hockey games."

Prior to coming to the ECHL, Steward had 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) and 21 penalty minutes in 58 games with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League during the 2004-05 season. Before turning pro, Steward had 59 points (27 goals, 32 assists) and 93 penalty minutes in 138 career games with the University of Alaska-Anchorage of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Watson, 26, returns to the Lynx after a rookie season in which he tallied 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) and 46 penalty minutes in 71 games in 2007-08.

"We really expect Chase to be a factor on offense this season," Marks said. "He has all the offensive skills and abilities; I think he's going to have a good year and surprise a lot of people."

Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 195-pound native of Media, Penn., had 77 points (19 goals, 58 assists) and 80 penalty minutes in 134 career games with Providence College. Watson's complete statistics are attached.
