Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

JUNE 5, 2004, 8:05 p.m.: OMAHA ROYALS (23-33) @ Colorado Springs Sky Sox (27-27) HOME: 12-20 (25-47 in '03) AWAY: 11-13 (45-26 in '03) vs. Colorado Springs: 2-2 (9-6 in ‘03)

TONIGHT: The Royals open a quick 4-game trip in Colorado Springs. Omaha lost it last 2 games vs. Oklahoma, splitting that series, and is coming off its 4th consecutive 3-5 home stand. 1st pitch is 8:05 p.m. with the pre-game show on the air at 7:45 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: The biggest crowd of the season – home or away – was on hand at Rosenblatt Stadium. 16,698 fans watched as the Royals could only muster 3 hits and 1 unearned run in a 4-1 loss to Oklahoma. RedHawks starter Nick Regilio (4-3) allowed 1 hit and 1 unearned run in 6.0 innings. Doug Brocail tossed 2.0 scoreless stanzas and Todd Williams surrendered a leadoff single in the 9th to Jed Hansen, but then induced 2 ground balls including a game-ending double play to register his 8th save (inside joke with Nasser/Jirschele: is there an echo in here?). Kris Wilson (2-8) pitched well in defeat, allowing 3 runs on 6 knocks over 8.0 frames.

ROYALS REPORT: The Royals recent roster shakeup continues today. Brad Voyles is no longer on the Omaha roster as he will pitch in Japan. Voyles went 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA in 10 games (8 starts) for Omaha this season. He was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (10.0 IP, 1 R-0 ER) over his last 3 outings (2 starts). Although he is not expected to join the club until Sunday, lefty Matt White joins Omaha's roster today. White was acquired by KC from Cleveland in exchange for a player to be named later. The 26-year old southpaw began this season with the Indians' Triple-A club at Buffalo, going 2-2 with a 5.97 ERA in 13 games (4 starts). In White's 6th professional season last year, he pitched for 6 different teams, including his 1st taste of the big leagues with Boston and Seattle. To make room on the roster, infielder Corey Hart was sent to Double-A Wichita. *** Wilson, who became the PCL's 1st 8-game loser last night, is 0-7 with an 8.18 ERA over his last 8 starts. He did not allow a homer last night for the 2nd time in 12 starts, keeping his loop-leading gopher ball total at 22. *** Adrian Brown had 2 of Omaha's 3 hits last night and also picked up his 5th stolen base, which is tops among the players currently on the club's roster. Brown is 5-for-13 (.385) with 2 RBI in 4 games this month, after hitting .143 (6-42) in 11 contests in May. *** Hansen's single in his last at-bat last night extended his hitting streak to 6 games. He's hitting .476 (10-21) with 4 home runs and 10 RBI during the streak. Hansen has also hit in 15 of his last 16 tilts (.367, 22-60). The only break in that string came last Saturday vs. New Orleans, a game that was halted by rain after 6 innings. Had the game not been called at that point, Hansen was the 2nd batter due to the plate in the 7th. *** Jarrod Patterson was inserted into the cleanup spot in the Royals' batting order last night, as Calvin Pickering, Rick Short and Paul Phillips all had the night off. Patterson went 0-for-4 and is now 0-for-his-last-21.. *** Over the last 7 games, David DeJesus is hitting .304 (7-23) with 3 homers, 3 RBI and 6 runs scored. *** In 4 games with Omaha since being acquired in a deal with the Cubs, Damian Jackson is hitting a "loud" .167 (2-12), as he has managed to drive in 5 runs and score 4 runs himself. *** Alexis Gomez is hitting at a .291 (16-55) pace over his last 18 contests. *** Alberto Castillo is just 11-for-his-last-69, giving him a .159 average over his last 21 games. *** Although the 2004 season series is tied 2-2, Omaha is 66-33 (.667) vs. Colorado Springs since joining the PCL in 1998.

STARTERS: RH Jamey Wright (6-4, 3.76) vs. RH Kevin Jarvis (0-2, 5.61) Wright makes his 12th start of the season. The 29-year old righty took the loss on Memorial Day in a 4-3 setback vs. New Orleans (6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 HR). Over his last 3 outings, Wright is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA (18.0 IP, 24 H, 7 BB, 12 K, 6 HR...he had yielded 4 HR over his 1st 8 starts). Wright has faced the Sky Sox once this season, blanking his former team over 6.0 innings in a 5-2 win on May 1 (5 H, 1 BB, 2 K). Wright is 3-3 with a 4.83 ERA in 3 starts at home this season, but has gone 3-1 and posted a 2.73 ERA in 5 turns on the road. Wright pitched for 4 teams in 2003, going 3-5, 3.64 for Omaha and 1-2, 4.26 in 4 September starts for KC.
