Tucson Sidewinders News Release

The Sidewinders took their first series sweep of the season with their 7-1 defeat of the Salt Lake Stingers. LHP Michael Gosling (2-2) pitched 7 solid innings in his attempt for his 2nd win of the season. He limited the Stingers' lineup to 1 earned run on 4 hits, while striking out 3. Stingers starter Brandon Emanuel (0-5) failed to win for the first time this year as he took the loss for Salt Lake, pitching 5 innings, allowing 6 ER on 13 hits.

Tucson's DH Alan Zinter may have had the night off fielding, but he certainly was busy at the plate. With 7 total bases, Zinter finished his night 3-4, with 2 runs, 3 RBI's, a double and his 6th bomb of the year, a solo shot in the 6th. 3B Brain Barden followed Zinter in the batting order doing much of the same going 3-5, with 2 2B's and 2 RBI's. Leadoff man CF Victor Hall managed to stay hot since his call-up having another 3-hit night, only a home run shy of the cycle.

For Salt Lake, who fell to 20-34, only DH Jake Thrower managed to put a multi-hit night together. 3B Javy Rodriguez hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot in the 4th, accounting for the only run for the Stingers.

The Sidewinders pushed their record to a season high 9 games over the .500 mark at 32-23. They still trail rival Sacramento (33-23) by a half game after the RiverCats pulled out a 5-4 over Tacoma. The Sidewinders hit the road for a brief 4-game road trip up north to Portland to take on the Portland Beavers, who recently took 3 of 4 from the Sidewinders from May 28-31 in Tucson.

The night's attendance was 3,347 and the game lasted 2:35. Probables for the first game of the Portland series will feature Tucson's RHP Casey Daigle (0-0) facing Portland's RHP Brian Sweeney (5-2, 3.90). Game time is 7:05 PM.
