Danville Otterbots News Release

Danville, VA-The D-Braves lost a close one on Friday night to the Burlington Royals. Danville was just 90 feet away from tying the game in the eighth inning but lost 3-2. Greg Ross was saddled with his first lost of the 2011 campaign and Matt Murray won his first.

Billy Beckwith led off the second inning with a four pitch walk before Nick De Santiago singled to give the Braves first and second with no one out. The very next batter, Sam Munson, doubled to right center field on a ball that centerfielder, Lane Adams, dove for but was unable to come up with. Beckwith was able to score easily and the Braves had a 1-0 lead after two innings.

In the fourth, Burlington took the lead, 2-1. After Murray Watts singled, Adrian Bringas grounded the ball the second on what should have been a doubleplay. Instead, Fernando De Los Santos lifted his glove up too early and the ball went right through his legs. It was De Los Santos's fourth error of the season. With runners on first and second, Anthony Howard got his first hit since joining the Royals. His single to right scored Watts to tie the game. The Royals weren't done there. Jose Rodriguez then grounded out to score Howard who had since advanced to third base.

The Royals added their third and final run in the fifth inning. Justin Trapp doubled to left field down the line. With Jorge Bonifacio batting, Trapp stole third base in a bang-bang play. Bonifacio was still at the plate when Ross threw a ball that kicked off of De Santiago's foot and caromed to the Royals dugout. The pitch was ruled wild and Trapp scored making it a two run ballgame.

The D-Braves tried putting together a comeback in the bottom of the eighth but fell one run short. De Los Santos beat out an infield single to begin the inning. He advanced to second on a passed ball by Royals catcher, Jared Dyer. De Los Santos then stole third before Nick Graffeo replaced Rudy Brown on the hill. Nick Ahmed hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score De Los Santos, cutting the Royals lead to one.

With two outs now, Kyle Kubitza blooped a single into short left field. Leftfielder, Anthony Howard, picked up the ball and threw it in over the head of second baseman, Rodriguez. Kubitza took advantage of the miscue and took second. Kubitza then stole third before Brandon Drury struck out to cut the rally short. The Braves were put down in order in the ninth.

The rubber game of the series will be tomorrow night at 7:00 pm. The Braves will be giving away Tommy Hanson bobbleheads to the first 500 fans through the gate.
