Pulaski Mariners News Release
Pulaski, VA - It was a tough day at the ball park for the Mariners tonight as they took on the Bluefield Blue Jays for game two of their three game series. The Mariners fell suspect to the big inning, putting them in a hole they could not climb out of, losing the game 10-3.
The Blue Jays' first round draft pick of a year ago, Noah Syndergaard, took the mound to start the game. He was in complete control throughout the game allowing no runs over his five innings of work. The hard throwing right hander struck out four and lowered his ERA to 1.33 for the season.
The Blue Jays opened the game scoring one run in the first two innings to give them the early 2-0 lead. It wasn't until the fifth inning when they blew the game open scoring four times to bring their lead to 6-0. Bluefield would take the overwhelming lead in the sixth, scoring twice on a throwing error to push their lead to 8-0.
The Mariners only runs in the game came late, scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Alfredo Morales, and scoring twice in the seventh on Efrain Nunez's fifth homerun of the year. The two run shot drew Bluefield's lead to 8-3. The Blue Jays went on to score two insurance runs in the ninth inning and won the game 10-3.
Noah Syndergaard (3-0) earned the win for the Blue Jays, while Mayckol Guaipe (3-3) was tagged with the loss for his four and one third innings of work.
The rubber match between the Pulaski Mariners and the Bluefield Blue Jays will take place tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Calfee Park. Tomorrow will be the Mariners last game at home until they take on the Burlington Royals on July 30, 2011 for game one of a three game series.
