Royals Broadcasts on KOIL-AM 1180
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals have reached an agreement with NRG Media for all of the team's games in 2009 and 2010 to be broadcast on KOIL-AM 1180. The radio station will be changing its format from Spanish to News-Talk on January 5, 2009. All 144 Royals games - home and away - will also continue to be broadcast on the team's website, www.oroyals.com, as well as on www.koilam1180.com during the next two seasons.
The Royals new radio partner features the strongest on-air signal in the team's recent history - 25,000 watts during the day and 1,000 watts at night. At its strongest, KOIL-AM 1180's signal can be heard as far away as Sioux City, Iowa to the north, Grand Island to the west, St. Joseph, Missouri to the south and Corning, Iowa to the east.
"We are extremely proud of our new partnership with NRG Media," said Royals Vice President/General Manager Martie Cordaro. "Our fans have told us that we needed to be on a radio station with a stronger signal and we're excited to be able to reach this deal for them."
"We want the new KOIL to be a leader in local sports," said KOIL-AM 1180 Program Director Neil Nelkin. "Having the Omaha Royals game broadcasts is an important part of that effort."
Mark Nasser and Kevin McNabb will return as the Royals broadcast team for the ninth consecutive season in 2009. Nasser has been the Royals Director of Broadcasting since 2001. The upcoming season will mark his 16th year as a broadcaster in professional baseball. Prior to coming to Omaha, he called games for the Wilmington (DE) Blue Rocks, the Portland (ME) Sea Dogs and the Burlington (NC) Indians.
McNabb will again call play-by-play during the Royals 72 home games. The 2009 season will mark his 16th year on-air with the Royals and 20th as a broadcaster in professional baseball. Before returning to his hometown in 1994, he called games for the Jacksonville (FL) Suns, Columbus (GA) Indians and Colorado Springs (CO) Sky Sox.
In addition to the Royals games, fans will be able to hear the 2009 Triple-A All-Star Game and next year's Bricktown Showdown pitting the Pacific Coast League and International League champions on KOIL-AM 1180.
