Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced the team's 2008-09 Promotion Schedule of Game Night Events and Special Giveaways. The Royals' promotional season kicks off on Opening Night (Saturday, October 25, 2008) with the refrigerator staple-the Papa John's Pizza Magnetic Schedule-and closes out thirty-six regular season home games later when the Royals celebrate Fan Appreciation Night. Between those dates, the Royals will honor our country's veterans (Veterans/MDA Night presented by Classic Harley Davidson), recognize our local teachers (Teacher Appreciation Night presented by Berks Community Federal Credit Union), give a little love to our local four-legged friends (Pups & Pucks Night), and give a lot of love to our community's lovely ladies (Ladies Night presented by Imagine That Boutique).
Consistent with the seven year history of the Royals, the team's promotional schedule will focus heavily on giving back to the community, as the team will host a series of game nights dedicated to local charitable organizations, including United Way Night, the Pink in the Rink Celebration, Jazz Fest Night for the Berks Arts Council, and American Cancer Society Night.
This season's promotions will include a number of collector quality giveaways, including-in this season when the Royals will host the ECHL All-Star Celebration-a series of four commemorative bobbleheads presented by All-Star Distributing featuring Royals who have represented the team in the league's all-star games. All-Star Distributing will also sponsor this year's version of the beer mug series, which has proven to be a hit with fans over the past three seasons. Other historically popular collectibles will include a trading card set (courtesy of Rieck's Printing on American Cancer Society Night) and a knit cap (courtesy of VF Outllet on College Night Out).
There are a couple of new giveaways of note, as well, including a mini-baseball bat to be given away by Comcast on the night when the Royals will honor the Lancaster Barnstormers. And, even though we don't recommend you get in net with it, fans can pick up their "Goalie Glove Oven Mitt" courtesy of Commerce Bank at our Taste of Berks Night, when the Royals will honor local fare and the eating establishments that cook and serve it.
Of course, a number of game nights will have a holiday theme, starting with Halloween Night presented by Deibler Dental, when the giveaway will be a Halloween Treat. The Royals will try to help fans pay for the holidays on Black Friday, when the Pennsylvania Lottery will give away power ball vouchers to adults 18 years of age and older. The Royals also hope to bring back some holiday cheer-and we had $10,000 worth of that cheer last season to be exact-in mid-March with the St. Hat Trick's Day Celebration presented by the Reading Eagle, when some lucky fan could add a couple zeros to last year's winnings and take home as much as $1,000,000.00 (March 14, 2009).
The Royals will don special jerseys several times this season, including Turn Back the Clock Night (December 30, 2008), when we'll all look back to 1967 in honor of the last time that the Royals' new affiliate, the Toronto Maple Leafs, won the Stanley Cup. In addition, the Royals and the Cincinnati Cyclones will each don their own Halloween "costume," when both teams will wear the jersey of their "original six" affiliate in the contest on October 31.
There will be several other hockey teams donning their own unique jerseys in "warm-up" games this season, including the fourth installment of the Battle of the Badges Hockey Game, which pits the respective hockey team from the Reading Police and Fire Departments (February 15, 2009). And, once again, the young folks will get at it when the East Penn Scholastic Hockey League holds its annual high school playoff championships prior to the Royals' game against the Johnstown Chiefs on March 29, 2009.
The Royals current list of 2008-09 Game Night Promotional Events and Special Giveaways is set out below. Please note that this schedule is subject to change. Fans should consult www.royalshockey.com for the most up to date promotion schedule for the Royals this season.
The Royals open the 2008-09 regular season against the Elmira Jackals on Friday, October 17, 2008 at First Arena in Elmira, New York. The Royals' home opener is set for Saturday, October 25, 2008, when the Johnstown Chiefs visit the Sovereign Center. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale.
