Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Scott Crawford. The twenty-seven year old Crawford, who hails from Etobicoke, Ontario, began his pro career in the ECHL, playing two seasons with the Peoria Rivermen before going overseas. In his first season in Europe with the Leipzig Ice Lions of the German Oberliga, Crawford, who is entering his fifth year as a pro, scored fifteen goals and assisted on twenty-one others in forty-eight games. Last year, Crawford (6'0/195) played for Valerenga (Oslo) in the Norwegian Elite League (Eliteserien), where he scored three goals and assisted on seventeen others in 34 regular season games.

In his rookie season, Crawford played one game with the Jackson Ice Bandits before joining the Rivermen, where he picked up seventeen points in fifty games for a team that won 48 regular season games and amassed 103 points in the standings before being edged out on the last day of the regular season in the race for the Brabham Cup (ECHL regular season point champion) by the Toledo Storm. In his second year with Peoria, Crawford played in all 72 regular season games, scoring eight goals, adding thirty six assists and being chosen as the team's most improved player for the Rivermen, who were ousted in the North Division finals of the Kelly Cup playoffs by the Royals. As a freshman in college, Crawford was a member of the 1997-98 NCAA National Champion University of Michigan Wolverines. After two years at Michigan, Crawford transferred to Niagara University, where he was the team captain for two seasons and was selected as a member of the All-College Hockey Association second team in his senior year.
