August 10, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release
Beaumont, TX (August 10, 2006) The Texas Wildcatters Hockey Team is pleased to announce the signing of J.F. David. David is one of the top offensive minded defensemen in the ECHL and will be counted on as a major contributor on the power play.
"I am very happy to sign with the Texas Wildcatters. A big reason I am coming here is because Malcolm (Cameron) is the coach," David said. "Malcolm always puts a winning team together. This is why I decided to sign with the Wildcatters."
David has spent time in the AHL with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Hershey Bears. He also has played in the ECHL with the Trenton Titans and last year in South Carolina. In 16 games with the Stingrays, David netted 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points. David finished the season in Germany playing for the Essen Mosquitoes. Still young at 24, David is a seasoned pro who was a major contributor of the Laredo Bucks CHL Championship run in 2004. During that championship season, David was a finalist for the most outstanding defenseman in the CHL.
"I have recruited J.F. for several years and I am very excited to have him wear a Wildcatter jersey this season," Wildcatters Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron said. "I know J.F. as a tremendous competitor and he will again be among the elite defensemen in the ECHL this year."
The 6'0'' 185 pound native of Blainville, Quebec made the All-Star Game in juniors at the age of 19 and was invited to Team Canada's 2002 World Junior Championship Selection Camp. He began his career at the age of 16 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Shawinigan Cataractes. He helped lead Shawinigan to four consecutive first place finishes in its division, highlighted by a 116 point campaign in 2000-01 which was best in the league.
The new-look Wildcatters open their third season on October 20 at Florida, before returning to Ford Arena for the home opener on October 28 against the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
