ST. JOHN'S, NL - The St. John's IceCaps two-week tribute to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment culminates this weekend as the team wears its new commemorative Regiment jerseys and honours the World War I soldiers throughout Friday and Saturday night's games.
With the IceCaps hosting the Utica Comets (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) this weekend both games will have a Royal Newfoundland Regiment theme, while also acknowledging our current military.
Weekend highlights include: the Royal Newfoundland Regiment colour guard and band, a ceremonial puck drop featuring the Honourable Frank Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams, the Ode to Newfoundland performed by Shalloway Choir, a special version of the video for the Ennis Sisters song 'Sing You Home' and videos of IceCaps players learning the history of the Regiment from officials at the Rooms and IceCaps players making commemorative forget-me-nots - a symbol of the Regiment. There will also be videos and in-game participation from family of Regiment soldiers.
The IceCaps Royal Newfoundland Regiment tribute jerseys will be worn by the team this weekend only.
