Roy & the Remparts in Wildtown on Wednesday
January 10, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Québec Remparts are in town to meet the red-hot Wildcats Wednesday night at the Den! The Cats have won 5 straight, so there's no better time for a test against the best.
The Remparts seem to be very good every year, and this year they're just plain great. Patrick Roy's club sit in 1st place in the QMJHL and are ranked 3rd in the CHL. They feature the 3-headed scoring monster of QMJHL Player of the Week Zach Bolduc (28G, 34A), Théo Rochette (20G, 40A) and newly-acquired Justin Robidas (17G, 31A). Bolduc and Rochette sit 4th and 5th in league scoring.
Quebec also can throw World Junior gold medallist Nathan Gaucher over the boards. The 19 year-old Gaucher (6'3, 207 lbs) is a BIG power forward who hits and hunts the puck - as evidenced by his recent play with Team Canada, where he centred the third line and wore an 'A'.
The Remparts' rearguard feature a couple of familiar names - Dieppe's Nicolas Savoie (4G, 19A) is playing his 5th season in Québec, and former Cat Thomas Darcy makes his return to Moncton after a mid-December trade. Goalie William Rousseau (2.14 GAA, .916 SV%) tops the QMJHL in wins with 19 in 25 appearances.
The Wildcats have been doing all the right things lately - big and small. They're scoring timely goals from many different contributors, and getting big saves in key moments.
Alexis Daniel (10G, 10A) and Charles Beaudoin (11G, 25A) have been leading the way over the last 3 games - Captain Daniel has 5 points (1G, 4A), as does overager Beaudoin (2G, 3A). D-man Etienne Morin just continues to get better with 22 points in his last 16 games. He registered at least 1 point in 15 of those 16 games
Max Barbashev has been even hotter than the Wildcats - he started scoring December 14 and won't stop. Barbs has scored in 9 straight games - building on his new Wildcats record for consecutive games with a goal! He has 11 over that span.
In goal, Moncton can count on Vincent Filion who stands 9th in QMJHL wins with 12, and Jacob Steinman, who was named to the QMJHL Team of the Week for his recent stellar play.
