Rox Win in Extras off Blues' Error

June 12, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release

For 8 full innings, the Bristol Blues were looking like they were going to double their way to a victory. With 5 hits in 8 innings, all doubles, The Blues were blanking the Rox high-powered offense, winning by a score of 2-0.

Izzy Fuentes was superb for the Blues, going 8 full innings and only allowing 3 hits. Bristol took their 2 run lead into the bottom of the 9th where the Rox rallied.

After Fuentes' stellar 8 innings, Nick Silva got his number called in the bottom of the 9th. With one out, Eric Feliz picked up one of his two hits on the day to begin the rally. Trent Turner was on deck and hit a double to bring in Feliz and cut the gap to one. The fourth batter of the inning and the third to reach base, Andrew Calderone, hit a single for his 2nd hit of the game to bring in Turner and tie the game at two.

The game went to extras and it looked like Bristol had something brewing. A one out single by Brandon Grover looked promising. A walk to the next, Zach Scott, put two men on with one out. A sac fly to right field by Andrew Kendrick put Grover on third, but the Blues couldn't bring Grover home.

In the bottom of the 10th, Dillon Cooper had a one out single. With two outs and Jackson Strange at bat, Cooper stole 2nd successfully and an errand throw by Blues catcher James Brown with a Brockton Rox bounce into the outfield scored Cooper all the way from second base for a walkout in the 10th inning.

The Rox (6-4) look to build their second winning streak of the year as they travel to Wachusett on Tuesday to take in the Dirt Dawgs. The Rox return to Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday morning to welcome the Seacoast Mavericks. First pitch is at 10:05 AM.
