Brockton Rox News Release
(Brockton, MA â January 15, 2004) The Brockton Rox announced the trade of Mike Landry to the Rockford RiverHawks, of the Frontier League, for future considerations. The Rox also signed catcher Kris Zacuto, formerly of the Richmond Roosters.
Landry, 24, has played for the Rox for 2 years as the backup catcher for All-Star Mel Rosario. He has played in 64 games for the Rox and amassed a .271 batting average over that time.
"Landry has been one of our more popular players, both in the clubhouse and to our fans. He has played a very integral role with this ball club for the past two seasons and we will miss him," said Rox Manager Ed Nottle. "In Rockford, he has the ability to be the everyday catcher, like he wants, and we wish him the best. Mike is a tremendously hard worker and he truly understands the right way to play this game and I have told him that he has the right make up for coaching, if he so chooses, in the future."
Kris Zacuto, 24, spent last season in the Frontier League with the Richmond Roosters. The 6'1" Zacuto was a swing man for Richmond playing three different positions, catcher, first base and designated hitter.
Landry is the seventh player from the 2003 Northeast League Championship team that will be playing for a new team next year. The Rox have sent a record tying four players to Major League Organizations this off-season, Darren Blakely to the White Sox, Conor Brooks to the Marlins, Tony Stutz to the Angels and Nestor Smith to the Cincinnati Reds. Also, Mike Davis and Fontella Jones were traded in November to the Allentown Ambassadors.
The Brockton Rox play their home games in the "City of Champions" state-of-the-art baseball facility, Campanelli Stadium, adjacent to the Shaw's Center, a meeting and banquet facility. The club plays a 92-game schedule in the eight-team independent Northeast League.
