Rox Steal Another

July 16, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release

In a game that went back and forth, the North Shore fell to the Brockton Rox 8-5 Saturday night.

Joey Cole (5-2) pitched 1 1/3 of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Bryan Morse (6-2) took the loss despite pitching well out of the Spirit bullpen.

North Shore jumped out to the early lead in the opening frame. Brian Lentz's RBI single scored Vic Davilla with the games first run. Brockton wasted no time in tying the contest up. Designated hitter Kris Zacuto deposited a Bicondoa offering over the fence in left for his 3rd homerun of the season.

Eric Storey's solo shot leading off the bottom of the second put the Spirit back on top 2-1. The lead was short lived however as Jake Daubert's two out RBI double scored Zacuto from first, knotting the game at two.

In the fifth, the Rox sent nine men to the plate and scored three times to take a commanding 5-2 lead. Saul Bustos and Guye Senjem each chipped in RBI singles.

The Spirit chipped away at the deficit in the seventh. Rob Fischer continued his torrid hitting with a solo homerun to straight away center field.

Still trailing by two in the eighth, North Shore rallied to tie the game thanks to a defensive miscue by Rox first baseman Craig Lewis. With two outs, Marcos Agramonte hit a routine chopper to third. Lewis couldn't handle Daubert's throw, allowing pinch runner Garrett Weir to score the tying run.

Brockton stole the momentum back in the ninth. With runners on the corners, Senjum came through again with a run scoring single that plated Matt Cucurullo with the go ahead run. By the time the dust had settled in the inning, the Rox had posted a three spot against the Spirit bullpen and held an 8-5 lead.

The last game of this series will be played Sunday at Fraser Field with game time set for 2:05PM.
