Jackals win sets up rubber match on Sunday

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals rallied in the late innings, turning the tables on the Cutters, and defeating them 4-3 at Yale Field.

New Jersey opened up the scoring in the top of the third. With two runners aboard, and two outs, John Lindsey stroked a base hit into left field, making the score 1-0, Jackals. Steve Checksfield scored on an error in the fourth, putting the Jackals ahead by a pair of runs.

Jackal starter Joe Orloski silenced the Cutters until the bottom of the sixth, when they tallied three runs on their third time through the lineup. Derrick Gibson reached on an error, allowing a run to score, and RBI's were notch ed by Bill Peavy and Chas Terni.

In the top of the eighth, the Jackals turned the tables on the Cutters bullpen. New Haven rallied to defeat New Jersey while facing their bullpen on Friday, but it was the Jackals who did the rallying on Saturday. They scored two runs off New Haven reliever Willy Espinal, retaking the lead at 4-3. Lindsey drove in a run on a single, and Elvis Corporan pushed across the eventual winning run on a sacrifice fly.

Joe Orloski got the no decision for the Jackals in six and a third innings pitched. He gave up seven hits, surrendered three runs, none of them earned, while fanning four. Courtney Hall also received a no decision in seven innings. He allowed six hits, two runs, only one of them being earned, while striking out two. Isaac Pavlik was the winner for the Jackals in two innings in relief, while Willy Espinal got the loss. Fabricio Benitez earned his fourth save, pitching a perfect ninth inning.
