Rox Rally and Leave Home with 7-4 Win
August 16, 2018 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
Down two in the bottom of the eighth inning, Reese Berberet capped a 2-out, 5-run rally with a grand slam in the Grand Junction Rockies 7-4 win over the Missoula Osprey Wednesday night at Suplizio Field.
The Rockies had nobody on with two out in the inning, but Grant Lavigne and Niko Decolati worked walks, and Daniel Montano's RBI single cut the Missoula lead to a run. Javier Guevara was hit by a pitch to lead the bases, setting up Berberet for his 10th home run of the season and the Rockies first grand slam.
Alexander Martinez took the mound in the ninth and worked around a 2-out single, striking out Blaze Alexander for his franchise record 14th save.
The teams traded runs in the first inning, but the Osprey took the lead with a run in the sixth off Eris Filpo, who surrendered two runs on six hits in six innings. Alek Thomas hit a 2-run single off Reagan Todd the seventh, but he stranded two more runs on base, and the Rockies scored unearned run in the bottom of the inning to get one of those back. Colton Harlow tossed a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning, setting up the rally in the Rockies half.
The win improves the Rockies to 12-7 in the second half, 32-25 overall and keeps them a game up on Ogden for first place in the division at the halfway point of the second half.
After an off day Thursday, the Rockies will begin a 7-game road trip Friday night with the first game of a 3-game series against the Helena Brewers. The first pitch from Kindrick Legion Field is set for 7:05.
