Rox Open Series with 14-9 Win over Brewers

Grant Lavigne finished with three hits and three RBI as the Grand Junction Rockies opened the post all star break portion of their schedule with a 14-9 win over the Helena Brewers Thursday night at Suplizio Field.

All three of Lavigne's hits went for extra bases with his sixth home run of the season preceding two doubles as the Rockies improve to 9-4 in the second half, taking over sole possession of first place in the South Division.

Coco Montes put the Rockies on top with a 2-run single in the first, but after the teams traded runs in the second, the Brewers scored twice in the third to tie the game only to see the Rockies break the tie and the game open with a six run bottom of the third inning. With the help of three walks and a couple of errors, the Rockies scored the first four runs of the frame without a hit, but Lavigne's first home run since July 18 capped the team's biggest inning since July 6 against Ogden.

Helena finished the game with four errors, and its pitching staff walked seven while hitting two.

Eris Filpo improved to 5-3 on the season after allowing three runs, two earned over five innings.

Along with Lavigne, Montes and Hunter Stovall drove home two runs. Stovall, Javier Guevara, and Cristopher Navarro added a pair of hits.

The Rockies and Brewers will play the second game of their four game series Friday night at Suplizio Field. the first pitch is set for 6:40.
