Rox on Four-Game Skid with Loss to Ogden
June 23, 2018 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
Franklin Garcia finished with three hits and five RBI, but the Rockies fell short Saturday night at Lindquist Field, losing to the Ogden Raptors 8-5.
Ogden scored the game's first seven runs, pushing across one in the first inning, and then blowing it open with a six run second which was capped by Dillon Paulson's 2-out grand slam, but Ogden managed just one on two hits from that point on, and with Garcia's help, the Rockies made things interesting.
With the bases loaded and two out in the fourth, he doubled home a pair, and then singled home Grant Lavigne in the sixth. After Jacob Amaya's check swing RBI single in the bottom of the sixth made it 8-3, Garcia doubled home two more in the eighth, but they couldn't get any closer.
In his professional debut Lavigne finished with two hits and two runs scored, while Coco Montes added a pair of singles, but the top four in the Rockies order combined to go just 1-for-19, and the the Rockies not named Garcia combined to go 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
Alejandro Mejia took the loss for Grand Junction, surrendering seven runs, six earned over five innings. The Raptors scored a run off Shameko Smith in the sixth, but Will Tribucher retired all five he faced in his professional debut, striking out five.
The loss drops the Rockies to 4-5 on the season as they have lost four in a row.
