Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (May 29, 2008) - Brockton Rox RHP Wayne Lundgren (1-1) allowed just two runs on seven hits in eight innings, but wound up taking a loss tonight as the Nashua Pride scratched and clawed its way to a 2-0 victory over the Rox. Pride RHP Lance Stevens (1-0) was victorious, dealing seven shutout innings.
Nashua scored in the first inning on an RBI single by CF Jeremy Pickrel and it turned out to be the decisive run of the game. Despite nine hits by the Rox throughout the night, and multiple quality scoring opportunities, Brockton was unable to put a run on the scoreboard. The Rox left eight runners on base, and six in scoring position in the game. Nashua scored an insurance run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Pride 2B Chris Torres.
The best scoring opportunity of the night for Brockton came in the fourth inning when 1B Francisco Lebron and DH Jud Thigpen each singled to start the inning. Lebron had moved to second base on a passed ball, and to third on Thigpen's single. But Pride starter Stevens got RF Matt Maloney to line out sharply to third base, and ended the inning on a double play off the bat of 2B Melvin Falu.
Nashua RHP Jarrett Stawarz pitched a scoreless eighth inning and RHP Andrew Weimer picked up the save with a 1-2-3 ninth; his first save of the year.
The two teams will play again in game two of the four game series on Friday night at Holman Stadium. Rox RHP John Kelly (1-0) faces Pride RHP Nicolas Suero (0-1) with a first pitch coming at 7:05 PM.
