American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release

(NASHUA, N.H., May 29, 2008) Nashua Pride starting pitcher Lance Stevens won the pitcher's duel at Historic Holman Stadium, throwing seven shut-out innings, on eight hits, two walks, and six strike-outs, to pick-up his first win of the season.

The Pride defense sparkled behind Stevens, turning a pair of double plays and cutting-off Brockton's Matt Maloney at the plate, when he tried to score from first base on a double off the bat of Melvin Falu early in the game.

The Pride got the only run they needed in the bottom of the first inning when, with two outs, Dennis Abreu hit a double down the right field line. The next batter, Jeremy Pickrel, then grounded a base hit through the hole in the right side of the infield, plating Abreu and driving in his fifth RBI of the season.

Abreu finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. He continues to hit well for the Pride, stroking six hits in his last nine at bats, four of them being doubles.

The Pride added an insurance run in the home-half of the eighth inning. After lead-off batter Jack Joffrion singled and then went to second base on an error, second baseman Chris Torres knocked in his second RBI of the season with a base hit to left field the sent Joffrion home.

Rox starting pitcher Wayne Lundgren suffered the loss despite a terrific effort, going all eight innings, allowing two runs, on seven hits, no walks, and seven strike-outs.

Jarrett Stawarz and Andrew Weimer combined to pitch the eighth and ninth innings for Nashua, allowing just one hit. Weimer earned his first save of the season retiring the Rox in order to end the game.

The Pride and Rox play game two of their four game series at Historic Holman Stadium on Friday night, when Nicolas Suero (0-1) makes his second start of the year for Nashua. John Kelly (1-0) gets the nod for the Rox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, entering its 11th season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment. The 2007 Can-Am League Champions will be participating in its third year of play in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball.
