Rox Get Back on Winning Side vs Suns
June 17, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release
After losing 3 straight, the Rox needed a bounce-back performance, and they got one from all four of their pitchers who appeared in Friday night's game.
James Muse started for Brockton, and looked a little shaky to start the game, struggling with location. But he settled in and put together a great game, going 4 innings while only allowing 2 hits and 1 run.
That one run that Muse gave up came in the 2nd inning where Pittsfield grasped their only lead of the game. Their 1-0 lead wouldn't last long. Brockton would match the scoreboard by putting up a run of their own in the 2nd inning.
The runs kept coming for Brockton. Three combined runs in the 3rd and 4th inning gave the Rox a 4-1 lead. An RBI by Chase Smartt in the third and one more by Jackson Strange in the 4th gave the Rox a 3-1 lead. A wild pitch by Suns pitcher Jamin McCann allowed Strange to score and grasp a 4-1 lead, a lead they would maintain the rest of the game.
Dan Rajowski, Bryce Verplank and Josh Smith closed out the game, going a combined 5 innings of no-hit baseball. A play that stuck out was when Rajowski received a ground ball from Brian Moskey. In a falling motion, he stuck his glove behind his back and threw Moskey out at first, resembling a play that would be seen on SportsCenter.
Eric Feliz kept up his sensational play at the plate this season, going 3-4 and maintaining the league-best batting average.
The Rox (7-7) can increase their record to 9-7 as they have a double-header against the North Shore Navigators tomorrow. First game is at 12:00 at Campanelli Stadium, and the players return to the field at 7:05 for game two. Come and enjoy Fireworks after the ballgame!
