
Rox drop finale to Elmira, 9-3

BROCKTON - The Elmira Pioneers avoided a three-game sweep and put an end to a 24-game road losing streak in beating the Brockton Rox, 9-3, Wednesday afternoon. It was Elmira's first win on the road since June 10th.
The Pioneers (6-11) opened the scoring with two runs in the first on a Jeremy Booth two-run single to right field. They never trailed in the game, plating two more runs in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings. They also scored a run in the seventh.
Every Elmira starter had at least one hit.
Left-hander Rolando Viera (1-0), making his first start this season, pitched seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits to post his first win for Elmira.
Brockton's Grant Dorn (3-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. Eddie Aucoin, Wayne Ough and Mike Henry all pitched in relief for the Rox (14-3).
Rox third baseman, Jake Daubert, blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to extend his franchise-record hitting streak to 21 games. It was his second homer of the season.
Despite the loss, Brockton won the season series 10-4. The Rox welcome the New Haven County Cutters for a four-game home series beginning Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
