
Rox Clinch Playoff Spot with Sweep over Stingers

St. Cloud, Minn. - Rox have the best overall record in the North Division after sweeping the Stingers in front of a crowd of 2,131 at the Rock Pile in St. Cloud Sunday night.
The Rox won game one of the doubleheader 6-2. Brett DeGagne University of North Dakota) would start game one for the Rox. He pitched 3.0 innings where he struck out three batters.
Brian Glowicki (University of Minnesota) would relieve DeGagne and toss 3.0 scoreless innings. Trevor Charpie (University of Nevada, Reno) would come in for the seventh and final inning where he struck out one batter.
Lee Miller (Davidson College) would start off the Rox offense with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
The Rox would score three runs in the second inning. The big inning would begin with Jake Farr (Tennessee Tech) scoring on a single off the bat of Michael Strem (Boston College). Strem would then score on a Austin Athmann (University of Minnesota) triple. Connor Crane (McNeese State) would then hit a triple of his own, scoring Athmann.
In the third inning Farr would hit a sacrifice fly that scored John Sansone (Florida State University). Sansone would hit a double in the fourth inning that brought in Miller for the final run of game one for the Rox.
The Rox would complete the sweep Sunday night as they took game two by a score of 3-0.
Sheldon Miks (St. Cloud State University) made the start for the second game. He would toss a complete game, shutout and struck out six batters. Miks would give up his first hit in the seventh inning.
With the win, Miks improves his record to 5-1 on the season. He has struck out 41 batters in 48.1 innings of work while his ERA sits at 2.79.
Game two's scoring would begin in the first inning when Athmann would smash a double to the right center fence that scored Joe Tietjen (UNC Ashville).
Miller would hit another homerun on the night in the third inning, his fourth of the season. The third run of the game two would be in the fourth inning when Farr hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Kyle Serrano (Colorado Mesa University) to score.
With the two wins, the Rox clinched a playoff spot and moved into first place in the North Division's Overall standings, leading Willmar by half of a game.
The Rox are now 24-8 in the second half and 43-23 overall. St. Cloud leads the second half North Division standings by four and a half games over Willmar.
The Rox will travel to Rochester as they take on the Honkers at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night.
St. Cloud will return home to the Rock Pile on Thursday, August 6th as they take on the Mankato MoonDogs. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. but gates will open at 6:05 p.m. for fans.
