Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI - Looking at Alec Byrd's (Florida State) final line in the box score, it shows that five earned runs were charged to the Kalamazoo pitcher out of the Sunshine State.

Even though Byrd was charged with five runs, he pitched better than the stats indicate. Until the sixth inning, the Growlers (7-27, 15-51) held a 1-0 lead of the Green Bay Bullfrogs (16-15, 38-28). Then, the unraveling began with an unearned run in the sixth and five earned in the seventh to give Green Bay a 6-3 win in the final game played at Homer Stryker Field in the 2015 season.

The offense was there for Kalamazoo, and at the end of the nine innings, the Growlers actually out-hit the Bullfrogs 12 to eight.

Angelo Armenta (USC), who has been swinging a hot bat as of late, bringing his batting average to above .200 for the first time this season, led the way going three for five falling a home run shy of the cycle.

The other multi-hit club member for Kalamazoo this game was the catcher from Arkansas, Alex Gosser, who had two singles.

Timely hitting was the problem for the Growlers this game. 12 hits will win most ballgames, unless those hits do not drive any runs.

Green Bay's eight hits proved to be more productive.

Jack Strunc (Washington State) led the team with two RBI off a bases-loaded single in the seventh.

As Homer Stryker Field closes its gates and prepares for the 2016 season, the current 2015 Growlers will hop on a charter bus and head to La Crosse to play the Loggers for one of their last series of the season.
