Old Orchard Beach News Release
Brockton, Mass. - Four different Old Orchard Beach pitchers combined to hurl a six-hit shutout as the Raging Tide topped the Brockton Rox, 4-0, at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Lincoln Sanborn (St. Joseph's College) earned the win (1-0) for the Raging Tide after scattering two hits and two walks to go along with three strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Rox starter Evan Brown (Newberry) suffered the loss (0-1) despite an efficient outing in which he surrendered just one earned run on four hits and one walk, while striking out two.
Old Orchard Beach (2-2) tacked on a pair of runs against Brown in the first and third innings to take the early lead. After Michael Cleary (Maine) scored on an error in the opening frame to draw first blood, Cleary scored again in third on an RBI groundout from Boston Langley (Rollins) to give the Raging Tide a 2-0 advantage.
After a leadoff single from Michael Pratt (St. Joseph's College) opened the bottom of the sixth, the Raging Tide added two more as Tucker White (Southern Maine) blasted a two-run homer to stake the hosts to a 4-0 lead.
That would be all the offense the Raging Tide would need as their bullpen kept Brockton (1-2) from rallying in the final innings. Robert Rozzi (Massasoit C.C.), Jack Murray (Rollins), and Henry Van Zant (Bowdoin) combined to allow just four hits and two walks through the final four frames. Van Zant was particularly impressive as he fanned four batters in the final two innings, while conceding just one walk and one hit.
Nick Colucci (Boston College) and Mansfield native Rhett Wiseman (Vanderbilt) each recorded a pair of base knocks to highlight the afternoon for the Rox.
Both the Rox and the Raging Tide are off on Monday before returning to action Tuesday night. Brockton heads to Nashua to take on the Silver Knights at 7:05 p.m., while Old Orchard Beach hits the road to face the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at 6:35 p.m.
