Old Orchard Beach News Release

Brockton, MA - After a blowout at the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs first home game, the team was still hunting for their first win and the Brockton Rox were standing in the way. The first pitch was thrown at 7:11 p.m. on June 9, 2012 by Max Tishman of Wellesley, MA who going to be an incoming freshman at Wake Forest. Tishman has been giving a special exception to play 3-4 weeks in the FCBL because of his outstanding talent.

The Dirt Dawgs opened up the top of the inning with a walk and a hit, but had two strikeouts while stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd. Mike Spinosa pitched a perfect bottom of the inning by getting two players to fly out and one to strikeout.

The next two innings were quiet for the Dirt Dawgs and it wasn't until the bottom of the third when the Brockton Rox broke the tie by scoring 3 runs off of 5 hits, a stolen base, and a sacrifice hit.

Entering the fourth inning, down 3 runs to none, the Dirt Dawgs had no answer to the young Tishman on the mound. Spinosa continued to pitch in the fourth, but was replaced by Nick Boutoures of Wilmington, MA, after only getting one out and letting up a triple to deep left center. The first batter faced by Boutoures was hit by a pitch, who later stole 2nd. A dropped catch in short right allowed a run to be scored and put runners on the corners. Another stolen base followed by a single up the middle allowed 2 runs to score. Finally the inning came to a close with two ground outs stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd, but 3 more runs had been added to the Rox tally for the night.

The Dirt Dawgs answered at the top of the fifth by a leadoff single by Matt Lerner followed by a double from Dan Gusovsky. Connor McDavitt ended the scoring drought by hitting a single into center bringing in one run and moving Gusovsky to 3rd. A sacrifice hit by Ysander Figueroa drove in one more run, but the Rox finished up the inning only allowing 2 runs to be put on the board for the Dirt Dawgs.

Wachusett had been given a few opportunities to put more runs on the scoreboard, but the Rox pitching staff along with their supporting defense kept the Dawgs with stranded runners and no more runs to show for their fighting efforts. The game ended with the Brockton Rox on top 6-2 and left the Dirt Dawgs with another loss that was added to their already winless season.

The Dirt Dawgs are still looking for their first win and are hoping they can get it at home as they take on the North Shore Navigators at historic Doyle Field in Leominster, MA at 4:30 p.m.

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic, and newly renovated, Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The team will play a 55 game schedule this summer in the nine team league. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by contacting the Dirt Dawgs at 978-965-4404 or info@dirtdawgsball.com.
