Desai, Berry Combine On Four-Hit Gem As Navigators Blank Wachusett

Leominster, Mass. - North Shore starter Josh Desai (Shrewsbury, Mass./Suffolk) had a superb outing, throwing eight shutout innings as the Navigators defeated the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, 7-0, in a Futures Collegiate League affair at Doyle Field on Sunday afternoon.

The lefthander limited Wachusett to three hits while fanning six to pick up his first win of the season. RHP Sam Berry (South Hamilton, Mass./Marist) threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the shutout.

North Shore (3-1) jumped ahead early with a four-run second inning, which included a sacrifice fly from SS Aaron Silbar (Jacksonville, Fla./Columbia), an RBI single by RF Sam August (Boston/Penn State), and a pair of unearned tallies. The Navigators then tacked on another run in the third on August's RBI fielder's choice. In the sixth, DH Jake McGuiggan's (Hingham, Mass./Harvard) RBI single made it a 6-0 game, while 2B Brad Elwood (Indian Trail, N.C./Charlotte) drove in the afternoon's final run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, plating August.

Eight of the Navigators' nine batters had base hits; August, 1B Rob Krentzman (Lexington, Mass./Bucknell) and CF Tony Serino (Saugus, Mass./Massachusetts) each had a pair of base knocks. Serino's second-inning double was the team's only extra-base hit.

LHP Conor Ortolf (Lafayette) picked up the loss for Wachusett (0-4), giving up five earned runs in six innings for work.

The Navigators are idle Monday before continuing their four-game road trip on Tuesday at Seacoast at 6:00 p.m.
