Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - RHP Robert Averette allowed three runs on the hill for the Rox in the first two innings but settled down to fire five straight shutout innings and the Rox offense scored five runs late in a 5-3 win over the Worcester Tornadoes at Campanelli Stadium before 3,302 fans. DH Guye Senjem drove home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, and the Rox capitalized on four Tornado errors to score three unearned runs in the win. RHP Jon Koch picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth. The Rox broke a two-game losing streak with the win while Worcester has now lost five in a row and six of seven.

Averette allowed four hits in the first inning, leading to two runs. 1B Chris Colabello drove home a run for the Tornadoes with a groundout and DH Marcos Rodriguez singled home a run to make it 2-0 Worcester. The Tornadoes scored again in the third to make it 3-0, but Averette did strand four runners in the first two innings.

In the fifth, 3B Mike Torres singled home RF Keith Brachold, putting the Rox on the board. The Rox scored again in the sixth on an error by Worcester RHP Reid Willet. In the seventh with 2B Matt Brunson on first, SS Mike Scanzano doubled down the left-field line and LF Josh Beauregard bobbled the ball, allowing Brunson to score. Later in the inning, Senjem drove home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Senjem did not have a hit and did not reach tonight, snapping a nine- game hitting streak and a 17-game streak of reaching base consecutively.

Brockton added a run in the eighth on a passed ball and Koch, despite walking a batter to lead off the ninth, pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save. The Rox and Tornadoes play tomorrow morning at 10:35 AM with RHP Brad Guy (1-0, 1.55 ERA) squaring off against RHP Alex Pena (1-0, 2.74 ERA).
