 Brockton Rox

Rox Beat Sharks in Nail-Biter

July 26, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton welcomed the Sharks for the second straight game, and were searching for their 2nd straight win.

Justin Lasko took the mound for the Rox. Lasko was phenomenal in his 7.2 innings pitched. Three runs scored while he was on the bump, but none of the runs were earned as he fanned 5 batters.

Brockton's offense backed up Lasko by picking up 4 runs in the first 6 innings. In the 2nd, Chris Berry started the inning with a leadoff triple and Dillon Cooper drove him in with a sac fly. Brockton added another run in the 4th when Eric Feliz hit a one-hopper off the center field wall to drive in Berry.

The Sharks tacked on 2 runs in the 5th to tie the game, but Brockton countered with 2 runs of their own in the 6th.

Heading into the 9th, the Rox maintained a 5-3 lead, but things got interesting. The Rox cleared the bullpen in the 9th and left the game on Bryce Verplank's shoulders. Things looked to be smooth sailing as the first two batters were put-out, but 3 straight walks loaded the bases to put the Sharks in position to come away with a victory. An error by Verplank made it a 1-run game, but Verplank retired the next batter with a great play at third base by Chase Smartt.

The Rox improved to 21-23 on the year. Brockton's next home game is tomorrow against the Nashua Silver Knights (28-15). It's an early one tomorrow, first pitch is at 10:05 AM. Come see the Rox in action!
