Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Bud Norris - the season leader in strikeouts in the PCL - struck out just one batter Sunday night, but it didn't matter.
The Express (41-53) rode 14 hits to a 7-4 win over Oklahoma City (46-47) in the series finale, splitting at two games each.
It was Norris' fourth win of the season, and he earned it by allowing four runs on 10 hits in eight innings of work.
Oklahoma City struck first in the game, nabbing a run in the third inning when a single by Esteban German scored Jose Vallejo.
Round Rock countered with a big bottom half of the inning. Tommy Manzella led off with a single to left-center field and John Gall singled up the middle to put runners at first and second. After a strikeout by Jason Smith, Manzella stole third with Edwin Maysonet at the plate, and scored when the throw from catcher Emerson Frostad sailed into left field. Gall was thrown out at third on the play. But walks to Maysonet, Mark Saccomanno and Reggie Abercrombie by RedHawks starter Luis Mendoza loaded the bases with two outs. An infield single by Yordany Ramirez brought one run home, and a bases loaded walk to Lou Santangelo brought home another to make it 3-1, Express.
The Express kept rolling in the fourth inning when Manzella singled and Gall doubled to put runners at second and third with no outs. Smith grounded out to score Manzella, and Gall scored a batter later when Saccomanno hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
Already up 5-1 in the fifth inning, Manzella hit a two-run home run onto the left field berm to make it 7-1.
Oklahoma City put together a big inning in the seventh, scoring three runs on four hits and an error, but the Express lead was too big to overcome.
Casey Daigle picked up his second save in a row in relief of Norris.
Manzella and Gall led the charge at the plate for Round Rock with four hits each.
Round Rock welcomes Albuquerque for a five-game series, including a Tuesday double-header, Monday night at 7:05 p.m. with right-hander Yorman Bazardo taking the mound for Round Rock and right-hander J.D. Durbin taking the mound for the Isotopes.
