Z's get swept in Duke City

The Albuquerque Isotopes pounded out 17 runs on 22 hits and completed a four game sweep of the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday night at Isotopes Park. The Topes defeated the Z's 17-8 to extend the Zephyrs losing streak to a season high six games. Albuquerque defeated New Orleans in all 8 games played at Isotopes Park. The Topes also swept the Z's in three of the four series this season.

The Topes line up batted around twice in the game and everyone in the starting line up had at least two hits. Tony Abreu led the game off with a solo home run and finished the contest with four hits and four RBI.

The Zephyrs Cameron Maybin pounded out four hits to lead New Orleans. Gaby Sanchez hammered a two run home run. New Orleans started John Koronka suffers the loss pitching two plus innings allowing a season high 9 runs on 10 hits.

The Zephyrs fall 7 ½ games back of first place Albuquerque and have 51 games left in the season.

Game Notes: The Florida Marlins promoted pitcher Rick VandenHurk. The 24-year-old right-hander has been solid for the Z's, he went 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA in nine starts. The Marlins have optioned shortstop Andy Gonzalez to the Z's to make room for VandenHurk. VandenHurk will start Monday night for the Marlins in San Diego. Zephyr outfielder Michael Ryan moved into the leagues top ten in hitting with a .315 batting average. The Z's bullpen surrendered 23 runs off of 37 hits in 17 innings pitched in the series.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs return home to Zephyr Field on Monday night to open a nine game homestand. The Z's will start LH Willie Collazo (7-3, 3.51) against Oklahoma City RH Josh Rupe (2-6, 6.36). Collazo was named PCL Pitcher of the week, this past week. RADIO: AM 690 WIST
