Round Rock Express News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - Max Ramirez led off the bottom of the seventh with a tie-breaking home run that proved to be the game-winner as the Omaha Storm Chasers defeated the Round Rock Express 6-5 in Monday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at Werner Park. The Express (2-3) stranded nine runners, going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Anthony Sartelli's two-run homer capped a three-run seventh for the Storm Chasers, who were 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position and stranded only one runner. Omaha pitchers retired the final six batters they faced after Joey Butler's leadoff single in the eighth, preserving the win.
Ethan Hollingsworth (1-0) picked up the victory in relief for Omaha, allowing one run on three hits over three innings with no walks and two strikeouts. Starter Will Montgomery lasted four innings but held the Express to a pair of runs on seven hits and three walks; he struck out three. Francisley Bueno worked the final five outs flawlessly with two strikeouts for his first save.
Express starter Zach Jackson (0-1) took the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits and no walks over six and one-thirds innings with one strikeout. Aaron Heilman finished the seventh, surrendering the Sartelli home run. Tanner Scheppers pitched a perfect eighth with two strikeouts.
Julio Borbon opened the game with a walk and later scored on Brad Nelson's RBI groundout. Round Rock pushed that lead to 2-0 in the third on Leonys Martin's RBI double. However, Omaha rallied for three runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth after the Express left the bases loaded in the fourth and stranded two in the top of the fifth. David Lough had an RBI triple and scored on Tony Abreu's game-tying single. Seratelli later plated Abreu with an RBI bunt single. Martin homered to open the top of the seventh, retying the game, but Omaha pitchers retired nine of the next 10 Express batters the rest of the way.
Martin was 3-for-5 with two RBI; he is 9-for-18 over the last four games. Tommy Mendonca was 2-for-4, snapping a season-opening 0-for-10 slump. Sartelli had Omaha's lone multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Round Rock and Omaha continue their four-game series Tuesday with an 11:05 a.m. CDT first pitch. Right-hander Mark Hamburger (0-0, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express opposite Storm Chasers' southpaw Will Smith (0-0, 3.00 ERA).
NOTE: Tuesday's game will be broadcast on 1530 AM in the Austin area. Live streaming audio will be available at www.espnaustin.com.
