Kitchener, ON - The Kitchener Rangers head into game two of the first round on Sunday afternoon against the Erie Otters with a 1-0 series lead. Since the 2017 in the playoffs the Rangers have a 14-8-1-0 record when playing on home ice at The Aud. Puck drop is set for 2 pm.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Game One:

The Kitchener Rangers won game one 6-3 on Friday night with five Rangers recording multi-point games. Luke Ellinas led the way for the Rangers scoring their first goal of the playoffs finishing the game with two goals and one assist for the first star. Matthew Sop, Eduard Šalé (Seattle Kraken), and Carson Rehkopf (Seattle Kraken) each netted one goal and one assist while Filip Mešár (Montreal Canadiens) had three assists. Dylan Edwards netted two goals for the Otters and Sam Alfano notched their third goal.

Who's Hot:

Luke Ellinas:

Luke Ellinas was on a tear in his first OHL Playoff game on Friday being awarded the first star of the game (2G, 1A). Ellinas finished the regular season with 16 goals, and 17 assists for 33 points in 67 games. The 2024 draft eligible forward had two power play goals, three first goals and two insurance goals. In the final 10 games of the regular season, he had nine points (7G, 2A). Ellinas was promoted to the first line on Friday night.

Filip Mešár:

Slovakia native Filip Mešár (Montreal Canadiens) has been an impact player for the Rangers in the regular season playing in 45 games scoring 19 goals and 33 assists for 52 points. He also notched three game-winning goals, three insurance goals, eight power-play goals, and 15 power-play assists. Mešár has played 10 playoff games in his career with the Rangers and has one goal and six assists for seven points.

Matthew Sop:

On Friday night Matthew Sop made his presence known scoring a power play goal and tallying an assist for two points. Sop has had Erie's number all season long scoring five goals and five assists through the six regular season matchups.

Goaltending:

Jackson Parsons:

Jackson Parsons started on Friday night where he was faced with 29 shots, allowing three in for a .897 save percentage and a 3.00 goals-against average. Parsons has played six playoff games in his OHL career recording a 3.05 goals against average and a .923 save percentage during those games.

SCOUTING THE OTTERS (33-28-5-2) 73 points 68 GP

5th in the Western Conference, 11th in the OHL

Otters to Watch:

2005-born Dylan Edwards played 38 games in the regular season having 22 goals (fifth most on the Otters), and 12 assists for 34 points. He also had two first goals, two game winning goals and three insurance goals. Edwards leads the Otters so far in his first OHL playoffs with two goals on Friday night one of which was on the power play.

Defenceman Matthew Schaefer was selected first overall by the Erie Otters in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Schaefer played 56 games in the regular season recording three goals and 14 assists for 17 points. In his last four games of the regular season he had two assists while he had one assist in his first playoff game.

Sam Alfano is one of three Otters with playoff experience. He registered his first goal of the playoffs in game one on Friday, only his second career playoff point in the OHL. Alfano had 16 points (8G, 8A) over the final 10 games of the regular season.

Goaltending:

Fraser:

Ethan Fraser opened the playoffs in net for the Otters allowing five shots in on 32 for a .844 save percentage and a 5.05 goals-against average. Fraser has only played in 10 games (6-1-1-2) after joining the team in February.
