Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Frisco, TX – The Frisco RoughRiders and Deuce, the team's mascot will participate in the 2003 Frisco Relay For Life kick-off on Friday, May 2nd at 7 p.m. Relay For Life is an event in which teams of runners or walkers from businesses, civic, social, and church groups participate to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer.

The Relay begins with cancer survivors running a Survivor's Lap. "This is something we wanted to be a part of," said Lynn Wittenburg, Vice President of Marketing. "We're about families and building relationships, and Frisco Relay For Life is about that and so much more."

The goal for Frisco Relay For Life is to raise $100,000 that will be used for cancer research, prevention, early detection, and prevention education. Each team member is asked to raise a specific amount of money prior to the event. Last year's Relay For Life raised close to $95,000.

While the Relay is in progress, a community party will be underway with food and games. Deuce will be on hand offering his own brand of fun and humor as part of the entertainment. The 6'6" tall, orange prairie dog, weighing in at 375 pounds knows how to bring out the best in any crowd.

After sundown, participants will light candles for a Luminaria Ceremony to honor those who have survived cancer and to memorialize those who did not.
