Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and the University of Iowa will team up for Iowa Hawkeye Night at the RoughRiders' December 20 game against the Sioux City Musketeers.
As part of the event the RoughRiders will wear special edition black and gold jerseys sporting the Hawkeye logo on the chest and the RoughRiders' logo on the shoulders. Members of the University of Iowa Athletic Department, including Herky, will be on hand for Iowa Night and will be introduced to fans during the first intermission.
"We're thrilled to be saluting the Hawkeyes and we'll be excited to wear the black and gold," said RoughRiders President and CEO Pat Forciea.
The RoughRiders compete in the tier I junior United States Hockey League. RoughRider players are amateurs who come to Cedar Rapids with the goal of going on to play Division I college hockey. In the five years since the team arrived in Cedar Rapids, better than 30 Riders have earned college scholarships.
"We are excited to be partnering with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for a special Hawkeye evening," said Rick Klatt, University of Iowa Associate Director of Athletics. "We are fortunate to have a great fan base in Cedar Rapids and this event allows us the opportunity to bring part of the excitement on the road."
The jerseys worn by the RoughRiders in the December 20 game will be auctioned off to benefit the Iowa Athletic Department immediately following that contest. RoughRiders Iowa Night replica jerseys will also be on sale at the RoughRiders merchandise stand on December 20. Iowa night is just one of several exciting events upcoming at RoughRiders games.
The RoughRiders return home for the first time in three weeks this Saturday when they host the Lincoln Stars. That game is the RoughRiders next Family Pack Night. The Family Pack enables fans to purchase four green zone tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks and one game program all for just $44 at selected games.
MediaCom and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will team up for Military, Military Family and Veterans Appreciation Night on Veterans Day, November 11, when the RoughRiders host the St. Louis Heartland Eagles at 7:05PM.
Military personnel, veterans, military reservists and those who have immediate family currently in the military are eligible to purchase discounted tickets to the game for $8.50 with the appropriate military identification.
Delta Connection and the RoughRiders will get together for the aptly named Where Would You Rather Go in January Contest- Miami Beach or International Falls? The two almost equally enticing winter getaway trips will be given away at the Riders' November 15 game against the Green Bay Gamblers. One lucky fan and a guest will win a welcome break from winter- a sun filled trip to Miami Beach. Another, only slightly less lucky, fan and guest will win a January weekend trip to the nation's ice box- International Falls, Minnesota.
The RoughRiders will play their traditional Thanksgiving home-and-home series against the Waterloo Black Hawks again this season. The Riders will host the Black Hawks the night before Thanksgiving- Wednesday, November 26- at 7:05, before traveling up I-380 to battle the Hawks in Waterloo on Thanksgiving night.
The RoughRiders currently own a 6-4-1 record. Coach Mark Carlson's squad returns to action with a pair of games this weekend. The Riders visit the Tri-City Storm Friday night before returning home to face Lincoln Saturday evening.
Tickets for RoughRiders first half home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
