November 3, 2003 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release


Major Marty - Des MoinesÂ’ Marty Mjelleli notched a goal on Friday and another on Saturday to increase his total to 11 in 11 games. His 1.55 points-per-game average leads the USHL.

BartÂ’s rolling - Lincoln's Adam Bartholomay has not been held scoreless in a month. His current tengame point-scoring streak has produced 14 points.

Six straight - Sioux City shaved Tri-City's lead in the West Division to two points Saturday with an overtime victory, the Musketeers' sixth win in a row.

New Star - Former WHL defenseman Kevin Seibel scored the game-winning goal on Saturday in his second USHL game with Lincoln.

Beastly East - Teams in the East Division have combined for a 22-12-1 road record thus far.

Johnson shines - Waterloo goaltender Aaron Johnson set a season high with six shootout saves in Saturday's Black Hawks win over Danville, the league's highest scoring team.

Clutch - Tri-City forward Rastislav Spirko leads the league with five gamewinning goals. His 14 points overall are tied for the team lead with Tom Pohl.

Streaking - Sioux Falls' Andrew Carroll has posted a four-game goal-scoring streak. Over that span, the Minnesota native has notched five goals.

Sioux City head coach Dave Siciliano on his shootout strategy (as told to Terry Hersom, Sioux City Journal):

“I kind of play it according to the game and who might be having a good one.”

LPH/USHL Offensive Player of the Week:

Jeff Hazelwood -- GREEN BAY GAMBLERS

Hazelwood (Dublin, Calif.), the GamblersÂ’ top scorer, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after registering six points (3G, 3A) in two games and a plus-minus rating of plus-6 last week. Honorable mention goes to Mike Erickson (Des Moines), James Brannigan (Cedar Rapids) and Andrew Carroll (Sioux Falls).

LPH/USHL Defensive Player of the Week:

Johann Kroll -- SIOUX CITY MUSKETEERS

Kroll (Plymouth, Minn.) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors by starring in both Sioux City wins last week. On Friday, Kroll assisted on the game-winning goal. On Saturday, he assisted on the game-tying goal. He posted a +3 and four assists in all. Honorable mention to Aaron Johnson (Waterloo) and Adam DÂ’Alba (Chicago).
