
RoughRiders take big lead, swamp Omaha

Sioux City, Iowa- Darren Rowe, Tobias Nilsson-Roos, Scott Winkler and Greg Burke scored two goals apiece and the RoughRiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the way to a 10-6 win over the Omaha Lancers in Fall Classic preseason action today in Sioux City.
The Riders were on the power play when Rowe jammed in a loose puck from to doorstep to trigger the Cedar Rapids onslaught 3:17 into the game.
The Riders would scored twice in just 34 seconds to stretch the lead to 3-0 just shy of the midway point of the first. Nilsson-Roos scored on the power play at 9:21; at 9:55 Winkler struck for his first of the day.
Burke produced a pair of goals late in the first to send the Riders into the intermission up 5-0. At 7:01 of the second period Rowe led a 3-on-1 rush and snapped a wrist shot home under the crossbar for the sixth Cedar Rapids goal.
Matt White got Omaha on the scoreboard for the first time when he picked the top corner at 10:51 of the second.
The RoughRiders respond by scoring twice in 41 seconds to widen the gap to 8-1. Tobias Nilsson-Roos steered the puck home from the slot at the 16:32 mark; Robin Bergman followed at 17:13, stuffing the puck in from close range. Just 14 seconds later, the Lancers kept the scoreboard ticking when Tye Lewis made it a total of three goals in 55 seconds.
The third period saw the Lancers outscore the Riders 4-2, though by then the issue was no longer in doubt. White (his second), Louis LeBlanc, Pat Mullane and Tom Craig provided the Omaha goals in the third while Brett Gensler and Winkler pushed the Riders into double digits.
