
RoughRiders Set to Host Tier 1 Challenge Next Weekend

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are set to host the 2nd annual RoughRiders President's Day Challenge Series February 16th through the 18th at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Twelve Tier 1 teams from the 2003 & 2004 birth years will be participating in the U13 & U14 event. Admission to all tournament games is free of charge.
Approximately 250 families from around the United States will be flying and driving into the Cedar Rapids Corridor and staying in local hotels such as the host Cedar Rapids Marriott and Hampton Inn & Suites as well as frequenting local restaurants and stores, boosting the local economy that weekend. All teams will be attending the RoughRiders USHL game Saturday night, February 17th against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 7:05 pm.
Participating teams are members of either the Tier 1 Elite or North American Prospects Hockey League, both feeder leagues to the USHL. Teams participating are the host and affiliate to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders (U13 & U14). Also participating are the Omaha AAA Hockey Club (U14), Gentry Academy (U13 & U14) out of Minneapolis, Sioux Falls Jr. Stampede(U14), Northern Express (U13 & U14) out of Chicago, Madison Capitols (U14), Iowa Wild (U13), Chicago Fury (U14) and the Indiana Jr. Racers (U14). Gentry Academy won the event last year and enter the tournament ranked #9 overall in the country according to MyHockeyRankings.com. The Fury are also ranked in Top 20, coming in at #19.
