
RoughRiders' Donovan, Johnson Earn USHL Weekly Honors

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Matt Donovan has been named CCM United States Hockey League Defensive Player of the Week and teammate Mike Johnson has been named Stauber's Goalcrease USHL Goaltender of the Week.
Donovan, 18, scored three goals and posted a plus/minus rating of +4 as the Riders won back-to-back games last weekened. The Edmund, Oklahoma, native scored twice in a 9-1 rout of the Omaha Lancers last Friday and scored another goal one night later in 6-2 victory over the Tri-City Storm.
Donovan is currently tied for second among USHL defensemen in goals (6) and is tied for third among blue liners in points (13). Donovan was named to the 2007-08 USHL All-Rookie Team after finishing tied for second among defenseman in goals (12) and tied for seventh in points (30) last season. Donovan will play college hockey at Denver.
Johnson, 19, made 25 saves last Friday in the Riders' win over Omaha and one night later stopped a further 17 shots in the victory of Tri-City. This marks the second time this season Johnson has earned Goaltender of the Week honors. Johnson leads the league in goals against average (1.94) and shutouts (2) and ranks second in wins (12-3-0) and save percentage (.926).
Johnson is in his first full season with the Riders. The Verona, Wisconsin, native spent the bulk of last year with the North American Hockey League's St. Louis Bandits, but did play two games for the RoughRiders, going 1-1 with a 2.01 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. He went 21-3-1 in 26 games with St. Louis, posting a 2.56 goals against average and a .909 save percentage while helping the Bandits to the NAHL Robertson Cup title.
The RoughRiders (15-5-0, 30 points) are in second place overall in the USHL. The Riders return to action with a pair games this weekend. The Riders will visit the Omaha Lancers Friday night before returning home to take on the Fargo Force at 7:05 Saturday evening.

The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 in advance and from $8 to $18 on game days.
