Calgary, AB - Ted Dowling, the 5th leading scorer in the history of the National Lacrosse League, is returning to the Calgary Roughnecks.

The Victoria native was today obtained from the Portland LumberJax in a straight exchange for rookie Ryan Marshall. Pending NLL approval.

Dowling, 35, was with the Riggers when they captured the Champion's Cup in 2004.

In that season, he collected 78 points (45 goals, 33 assists) in 16 regular season and three playoff games.

That same summer he was traded to San Jose, but returned to Cowtown late in the 2005 campaign and marked up 23 points in five regular season and one playoff game.

He was lost again when he was snapped up as a free agent by Portland in 2005.

"Teddy is one of the purest scorers the NLL has ever seen," explained Kurt Silcott, General Manager of the Roughnecks. "He has a flair for the big occasion.

Silcott added, "This is a good deal for us as it brings us instant offence for the stretch run.

"There are some questions about Ted's health but we've addressed that through a condition that if he is unable to play, Portland will have to give us a 2nd round draft pick. However, I am confident that Ted will be able to come in and play for us."

He continued, "To add a player like Ted Dowling to our roster for the stretch run is great for us. Hopefully he'll bring us the spark we need to make another run at the Champion's Cup.

"Losing Ryan is tough as he is a good young player, but he wanted to get to U.S. city and I think he'll fit in well in Portland. I think this is one of those trades that is good for both teams."

Dowling, 5 ft. 10 in. and 190 lbs, is in his 14th year in the NLL.

During that time, he has played in 164 games, scored 365 goals, registered 280 assists, and scooped up 730 loose balls.

Marshall played sparingly for the Roughnecks this season and picked up one assist in three games.

In another move. Silcott released veteran defender Rob Williams and transferred rookie Callum Crawford from injured reserve to the active roster.

"Callum has shown great improvement this year," said Silcott. "He is over his back troubles and looks poised to get in the line-up. Whether it is this weekend against Colorado or in one of the two games next weekend, we are not sure."
