FC Tulsa News Release

The roster for the 2016 Tulsa Roughnecks added another piece today with the addition of a second goalkeeper to the squad. The Roughnecks announced that University of California-Berkeley product Alex Mangels has agreed to terms with the team.

Mangels is the second keeper on the current roster, joining Jake Feener.

Mangels enters his first professional season after earning three letters during his time with the Golden Bears. In 23 total appearances, he logged a 1.60 goals against average and helped the team to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths.

As a sophomore, he earned a pair of shutout in the NCAA Tournament, blanking Bradley in a second round win and doing the same to Coastal Carolina in a third round victory.

The following season, Mangels posted a shutout victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in the second round of the NCAA.

Last fall, in his senior season, he split time in goal with Jonathan Klinsman, who is the son of USA National Team Coach Jurgen Klinsman. Mangels appeared in 10 matches, all starts, and recorded a career-low 1.11 GAA and a 74% save percentage.

This spring, the 22-year-old keeper was in preseason camp with Sacramento Republic FC before signing with the Roughnecks.

Mangels, who is from Lafayette, California, will travel with Tulsa on its preseason trip to Florida.

Tulsa will conclude its preseason slate on Saturday, March 19 by hosting Wichita FC at ONEOK Field. The Roughnecks are scheduled to begin USL regular season play the following week, on Saturday, March 26, by hosting Rio Grande Valley. Kickoff for both matches is set for 7:00PM.
