Tulsa Roughnecks FC and Arizona United SC played one of more entertaining matches in USL this season Sunday night at ONEOK Field. It featured a stadium record nine goals as the Roughnecks outscored United 6-3, picking up a valuable three points in their race for a Western Conference playoff spot.

A crowd 4,023 in downtown Tulsa saw the Roughnecks score three times in each half. The six goals were a franchise record for the expansion side.

The three points give Tulsa a total of 28 for the season, only two points out of the final playoff spot in the West. The win was a much-need result for the Roughnecks after falling at home Friday night to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.

Roughnecks jumped out in front against Arizona United. The game's opening goal came courtesy of Adam Black 13th minute. His free kick cross from outside the box on the right wing eluded everyone and settled into the far corner of the net to give Tulsa a 1-0 lead.

Arizona got on the board in a similar fashion in the 25th minute. Jose Cuevas sent a ball into the box that skipped through the Tulsa defense and past goalkeeper Jake Feener to even the score at 1-1.

The Roughnecks went back in front eight minutes later when Tulsa Union High and University of Tulsa product Cristian Mata struck. Mata's right-footed finish in front of goal was his third this season since joining the club on June 25.

Sammy Ochoa gave Tulsa a two-goal lead just before halftime. Left unmarked five yards outside the box, Ochoa beat Arizona goalkeeper Carl Woszcynski with his distance strike to put the Roughnecks in front 3-1 entering the halftime break. Ochoa, along with midfielder Chad Bond, missed the loss to WFC2 on Friday due to suspension from yellow card accumulation.

Any hopes of an easy win for Tulsa disappeared in the 58th minute. Roughnecks' midfielder Steven Miller was judged to have handled a rolling ball in the box, sending Long Tan to the penalty spot. Feener guessed correctly, but Tan's shot beat the Tulsa keeper to make it a one-goal game.

The offensive fireworks were far from over, as Brady Ballew restored the Roughnecks two-goal lead in the 67th minute. Ballew took a pass from Ochoa and finished for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

It took Arizona all of 60 seconds to respond. Tan was left unmarked in front of goal and headed home a cross from Cuevas to pull United to within 4-3.

The goals kept coming as the Roughnecks found the net again in the 71st minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Black was pushed down from behind in the box. Ochoa converted to go a perfect 2-2 on PKs this season and again restore a two-goal lead for the Roughnecks. Overall, it was the fifth goal of the year for the former Seattle Sounders striker, matching Ballew for the team lead.

Tulsa finally put the game away in stoppage time. Substitute Laurie Bell took a feed from another sub, Eli Galbraith-Knapp, and delivered a right-footed finish for his first-ever professional goal to cap a 6-3 win for the Roughnecks.

The entertaining match featured a total of 33 shots with 21 coming from the Roughnecks.

Tulsa played the match without Iarfhlaith Davoren. The Irish left back was a late injury scratch.

Tulsa is now 4-1-1 in its last six matches.

With only seven games remaining in the 2015 campaign, the Roughnecks will now go on the road for a couple of critical away matches. On Wednesday, they will be in Colorado Springs for a meeting with the third-place Switchbacks who are 8-1-1 at home this season.

The road trip will continue on Saturday night with a game against the Real Monarchs at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. The Monarchs sit in 12th spot in the Western Conference standings.

Kickoff on Wednesday in Colorado Springs is scheduled for 8:00pm Central Time.
