The Roughnecks now have 31 players remaining at training camp: four goalies, 13 offence and 14 defence.
"The first weekend of camp was high-tempo and very competitive," commented Calgary Roughnecks General Manager Mike Board. "The players came to camp fit and prepared allowing our coaching staff to introduce our systems, discuss some new rules and evaluate the roster."
Calgary Roughnecks training camp continues this weekend at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC, with one afternoon session at 3:45 p.m. and a scrimmage versus the Colorado Mammoth on Sunday.
Following the Langley evaluations, training camp returns to the Scotiabank Saddledome with sessions on Saturday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and a scrimmage against the Edmonton Rush on December 18 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.*
All training sessions at Scotiabank Saddledome, including the December 18 scrimmage, are open to the public. Complimentary parking is available in Lot A and the parkade via 5 Street SE.
"The two scrimmages against division rivals will provide our coaching staff an opportunity to see the players in game situations before the roster deadline," added Board. The final 23-player roster must be determined by December 22.
The Roughnecks open the 2012 season in Toronto on January 8 when they visit the Rock. The home opener is set for Saturday, January 21 when Calgary hosts the Colorado Mammoth.
