Roughnecks Open 2014 Home Schedule With A Win

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Colorado Mammoth 13-11 in the 2014 Calgary Sun Home Opener Friday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Dane Dobbie led the way offensively for Calgary with a six-point performance (4g, 2a), while Jeff Shattler scored four goals, for the second-straight game, and added an assist to finish the night with five points. Geoff Snider (3g, 1a) and Shawn Evans (1g, 3a) each tallied four-point efforts for Calgary, while rookie Karsen Leung recorded his first career NLL goal and a pair of helpers in the win. Alternate captain Geoff Snider won 14 of 26 face-offs and collected a game-leading 13 loose balls.

Mammoth captain John Grant Jr. led the visitors with two goals and four assists, while Drew Westervelt scored twice and set up three others. Sean Pollock had a hat trick and added an assist, while Adam Jones (2g, 1a), Joel Dalgarno (1g, 2a) and Jordan McBride (1g, 1a) also scored for Colorado.

Calgary goaltender Mike Poulin turned aside 34 of 45 shots to record his first win of the season, while Tye Belanger and Dillon Ward made a combined 41 saves in defeat.

Calgary will now travel to Edmonton on Friday, January 17 for the first of four regular season games against the Rush (7:30 p.m., YouTube.com/TLN). The following night, the Roughnecks return to Calgary to host the Vancouver Stealth at 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
