West Texas Roughnecks News Release

ODESSA, TX: The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Tuesday, April 28, that Ron Rankin has been named the new Defensive Coordinator of the Roughnecks coaching staff. Rankin will be leaving Dallas, TX to join the Roughnecks on Tuesday to run the Roughnecks defense as they prep for their upcoming game against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads on Saturday, May 2, in Robstown.

Rankin is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana and he holds extensive experience as a defensive coordinator from leagues such as the NIFL and the IPFL. Rankin will look to improve a defense that is allowing an average of 60 points a game currently this season.

"We are excited to have Ron coming in as defensive coordinator. We are anticipating changes in the defense that will help our club get back on track." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.

Rankin replaces former Roughnecks defensive coordinator, Kenny Thompson. Odessa currently ranks last in scoring defense and last in total defense, allowing 265.5 total yards a game to opposing teams.

However, Odessa currently ranks fourth in the Indoor Football League in total offense averaging 246.5 yards a game. The Roughnecks wrap up their current two-game road trip at Corpus Christi on Saturday, May 2, and then return home to face the same Corpus Christi squad on Saturday, May 9 from the Ector County Coliseum.
