Calgary Roughnecks News Release

CALGARY, AB- The Calgary Roughnecks made their final cuts Monday, trimming their training camp roster by eight players.

Forwards Kerry Susheski, Joe Vetere and Joel Henry were released, along with defencemen Kris Hartzell and Keith Nyberg. Transitional players Kyle Neufeld and Tyler Pridham were also let go, as well as goaltender Alex Coutts.

"The biggest disappointment is not being able to put Kyle Neufeld into the line-up," said Brad Banister, Roughnecks President and General Manager.

"He's probably the best conditioned athlete on the team, just with the new style of defence, he was having a hard time adapting."

According to Banister, Neufeld is a player who is strongly involved in the Calgary lacrosse scene, not only playing it in the summer months, but coaching the Junior A Raiders as well.

"He's a great guy, and we wish him all the best," added Banister.

Another player who also worked hard and gave it his all during tryouts was Tyler Pridham, a native Calgarian.

"Tyler's work ethic was fantastic; he's a local kid that did a great job, in fact, he did better than expected," said Banister.

"He's a great kid and definitely the right kind of person for our organization, but he just has to work on a couple things for next year."

With 23 players remaining, the Roughnecks roster is now set and includes 10 defencemen, nine forwards, two transitional players and two goalies. The practice roster is yet to be announced.

The Calgary Roughnecks 2008 training camp continues this Friday, December 12 at the Calgary East Soccer Centre.

The Roughnecks will continue to hold weekend training camp sessions during December and the beginning of January in preparation for the 2009 season.

All training camp sessions are free and open to the public.

The Roughnecks and Edmonton Rush will meet this Saturday, December 13 for a pre-season Battle of Alberta at the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are on sale through TicketMaster.

The Roughnecks open their season in San Jose on January 9th and host their home opener at the Pengrowth Saddledome on January 10th against provincial rivals, the Edmonton Rush.
